The district is named after the merger of Seydi Village and Kemer Village, which were previously connected to Fethiye. 

The village of Seydis, which is located here, was previously connected to the same mayorship as the Seki neighborhood. Afterwards, he left the mayor's office and became a detached village. Kemer Village, on the other hand, received its bookmark from the historic Kemer Bridge located here. Kemer, a neighborhood of Seydis town in 1915, left in 1946 and became a detached village. With the law adopted by the Parliament on November 12, 2012, these two villages merged to create sejkemer district.
