Places to Visit and See in Ulaş
Ulaş Lake: There are picnic areas in Ulaş Lake, which is located in the district center, where you can have a good time with your family and enjoy the lake view among the lush green trees. Lake Ulaş hosts many guests from its villages and neighboring districts, especially during the summer months. If you are looking for something other than a picnic, you can go fishing in Ulaş Lake. Do not leave Ulaş Lake without diving into the scenery and taking a few photos! Especially, you should not forget to immortalize the time you spend in the view overlooking Tecer Mountain.
Seyh Mehmet Dede Tomb: It is said that the Seyh Mehmet Dede Mausoleum, located in the Gümüştepe village of Ulaş, was built during the reign of Yavuz Sultan Selim. In addition to the tomb, there is also a madrasah and fountain. Sheikh Mehmet Dede is said to be a saint who worked as a shepherd in the village.
Acıyurt Village Mosque: It is a mosque located in Acıyurt Village, which is connected to Ulaş. Since the Acıyurt Village Mosque does not have an inscription, it is not known when it was built. It has a garden surrounded by stone walls outside the mosque. Its most important feature is the excessive use of woodwork and paint decorations. The main trunks are juniper trees. The wooden pulpit and the embroidery made using root paints on the ceiling make a strong impression. Ottoman motifs are used in decorations. Especially the embroidery on the ceiling is thought to be a carnation pattern. Due to all this hand workmanship, Acıyurt Village Mosque is one of the places where gold is taken under protection.
Acıyurt Mihrali Bey Mansion: Mihrali Bey Mansion, located in the village of Acıyurt, also in Ulaş, belonged to Mihrali Bey, who showed heroism in the Ottoman-Russian War. Mihrali Bey went with his 500 men in order to suppress the rebellion in Yemen and was martyred as a result of his struggle with the British and the Arabs. Near this mansion built by Mihrali Bey, whose burial place is unknown, his son built a mansion for him. Mihrali Bey Mansion was used as a cultural center. In Mihrali Bey Mansion, besides the poetry and folk songs of the folk poets, horse races were held and wrestling was also held. The ceiling decorations make the Mihrali Bey Mansion special, just like the Acıyurt Mosque. It is one of the ceilings worth seeing due to the fine workmanship and color harmony in woodworking.
Ulaş Culture Festival: The Ulaş Culture Festival, held in the Ulaş Lake park, welcomes its guests in June every year. Some of the activities in the Ulaş Cultural Festival include javelin games, concerts by local and national artists.
Ulaş Local Tastes
You should definitely taste the leaf doner seasoned with its own sauce. As a result of the registration evaluations that lasted for about two years, Ulaş leaf doner and meat pita received the Geographical Indication Registration Certificate. The most important feature of Ulaş doner is that it is made with the meat of the animals grazing on the skirts of Tecer Mountain and you will not find this flavor anywhere else.
