Sehzade Mosque
The mosque, also known as the Şehzadebaşı Mosque, was built by Mimar Sinan on behalf of his son Mehmed, who died at the age of 22 in 1543, while he was serving as Saruhan Sanjak Bey. The mosque, which was built between 1543 and 1548, was defined as an apprenticeship work by Mimar Sinan. The 18.42 meter dome of the mosque rests on 4 large half domes. The fountain courtyard of the mosque, which has double minarets with two balconies, has 16 domes on 12 columns. Madrasah, soup kitchen, tabhane and tombs are in the garden of the mosque.
Şehzade Mehmet Complex
The interior of the tomb in the garden of the Şehzade Mosque is covered with colorful tiles. In the sarcophagus in the middle, Şehzade Mehmed lies, Hümaşah Sultan lies on his left, and Şehzade Cihangir lies on his right. On the left side of the Şehzade Tomb is the tomb of Rüstem Pasha. In the outer courtyard, there is the tomb of Destari Mustafa Pasha.
Although the complex was first built for Suleiman the Magnificent, it was given to his son as a gift after his son died at a young age due to smallpox. Some of the materials used in the construction of the complex were brought from “Forum Tauri”. After the buildings of the complex were damaged in the fires in 1613 and 1633, Sultan IV. It was repaired by Murat. During this repair, the fountain complex was renewed. Afterwards, the buildings belonging to the complex were restored again.
