Places to Visit in Piraziz

Although the town of Piraziz is not considered rich in terms of antiquities, its castle, mansions and some religious works considerable.

Bendehor (Mendehorya) Castle: There is no full consensus among historians as to whether the Bendehor castle is from antiquity and what this name means. Bendehor Castle, which is the oldest settlement place in Piraziz and understood to have been built before the conquest of the region by the Turks, is located in the current neighborhood of Kaleyanı or Ayıkaşı. Just like Öksün Castle in Bulancak district, Espiye Like Andoz Castle in Arial, this was a small fortification, a bandwagon, whose inhabitants were Christian when the Chepni lords captured the area. It was probably achieved peacefully with the people's declaration of allegiance and the non-Muslim elements in it remained in their places. It was stated here that in 1455, 24 male taxpayers lived and 1.868 coins were collected from them. Turkish names such as Murat, Tekir and Sevinç, among non-Muslims, suggest the pre-Islamic presence of Christian Turks in the region.

Şeyh İdris Tomb: It is understood that Şeyh İdris, who came here among Turkmen groups during the opening of the region to Turkish settlement, died in 1399. Therefore, it can be said that the lodge in today's Şeyhli District was built close to this date. Among the people, it is told in a mythological language that the trees cut by the sheikh from the forest were carried by the deers to the place where the tekke was at night, and that the tree cuttings on the right and left of the entrance door are from this period. The lodge, known to have been restored in 2007, has a simple square plan, with a large garden wall. It does not have an original image other than the wooden material on both sides of the entrance door.
