Do you live too long? Possible in Araban...
Although it is not clearly known whether it is a coincidence or a relationship, the name of this district is also the name of a makam in Turkish Art Music. Araban could not get much investment with limited means and therefore could not develop, and it continues its life as a district because it cannot be used efficiently in local resources. However, it is known as an important settlement for a long time in history.
Araban History
Located in the west of the Karasu river and the Euphrates river, this district takes its name from the Araban plain in the north of Gaziantep. The region between the mountains, with difficult conditions in terms of transportation, was known as Altıntaş in the first years of the Republic. Prior to that, Yavuz Sultan Selim conquered the region and in 1517 Araban was included under the Ottoman flag.
To go back to the very beginning, the first known name of the district of Araban, which has a history known back to the medieval period, is "Raban". The fact that it was surrounded by mountains helped to break the continental climate a little, so it was not shared between the Armenians and the Crusader County of Urfa, and it was captured by the Kingdom of Antakya in 1120.

Araban Attractions
Memorial Tombs
We mentioned that in the past, the district was a very high-level residential area. Of course, this information can be revealed and proven thanks to archaeological studies. The excavations carried out in three different villages of Araban have shown us with monumental tombs that the Roman nobles lived in the region.
There are different features found in the tombs of the Roman noble, wealthy and ruling class. They consist of three layers, a roof resembling the top pyramid, a pillar-arch structure in the middle and a burial chamber at the bottom. This type of structure is exactly the same as you can see on your Araban exploration route.
These tombs found in Hasanoğlu, Hisar and Elif villages are basically similar to each other and are generally dated to the 2000s AD.
Broken Bridge
Although the name of the bridge, which is thought to have been built during the reign of the Roman emperor Septimus, is referred to as the Septimus Severus Bridge in the literature, the locals who lived with 4 eyes collapsed and one eye thick, although it was actually 5 eyes, gave this bridge the name Broken Bridge among themselves. As many columns as the number of Severus family, each member of the family was built on the bridge.
Araban Castle
The mound is located on a flat area in the district center. It was understood through this castle that the name of the district was Raban, and the fragments found among the ruins showed that it was a mosque, a madrasa, that is, a living space. For the Araban tour route, we recommend you to visit this castle and to examine the mosque structure, which you can see especially among the ruins here, and if you have a little interest, you can see this structure that offers beautiful examples of Turkish art with your own eyes.
The beautiful living conditions in the district of Araban, which we attribute to its not being very industrialized, proved itself with Vakkas grandfather, who is 107 years old and has been the subject of healthy news.
