Places to Visit and See in Altınyayla
Merkez Mosque: Located in the center of Altınyayla, the Merkez Mosque was built in 1895. You should not leave Altınyayla without seeing the engravings drawn with madder on the ceiling and pillars of the Central Mosque, which was built by Tonuslu Ahmet Pasha.
Sarissa Ancient City: Sarissa Ancient City, located in Başören village of Altınyayla district, was one of the important settlements of the Hittites. The ancient city of Sarissa, which was used as a campus between 1400 and 1500 BC, is one of the 5th cities with tablets. Sarissa Ancient City was built on a round shaped hill surrounded by walls. Some of the 52 tablets found in the ancient city of Sarissa, where the Hittite Kings came and carried out their summer work, are in good condition. Some of these tablets describe the festivities held at that time.
There are four gates to enter Sarissa Ancient City. The height of the city is 1650 meters and it was built on a very large area with the remains of the city walls of 1950 steps.
One of the largest Hittite temples, the king's palace, and the south and northwest gates, through which the entrance to the city was provided, were unearthed during the excavations carried out to date. Many of the finds, such as the "Twin Bull (Ryhton)" sculpture, are exhibited in the Sivas Museum.
The Hittite dam and open-air temple are located in the southern part of the Kuşaklı mound. Because of the walls, the local people call the ancient city of Sarissa as "Belted". This area is the place where the city's drinking water is supplied and religious ceremonies are held. It is understood from the written texts that this open-air temple is of great importance.
Miktad Ağa Mansion: It is the oldest house in Altınyayla. Miktad Agha Mansion is thought to have been built in 1800. Some mansions, such as Miktad Ağa Mansion, were exhibiting the best examples of civil architecture before they were demolished.
