Many foundation libraries were moved to the library in the early 20th century. In Yavuz Selim, only the Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Library was left in place. The library, which continued its activities here until 1945, was moved to the Süleymaniye Library and the wall in between was removed and its place was added to the mosque.
